Voter Model Perturbations and Reaction Diffusion Equations
We consider particle systems that are perturbations of the voter model and
show that when space and time are rescaled the system converges to a solution
of a reaction diffusion equation in dimensions . Combining this result
with properties of the PDE, some methods arising from a low density
super-Brownian limit theorem, and a block construction, we give general, and
often asymptotically sharp, conditions for the existence of non-trivial
stationary distributions, and for extinction of one type. As applications, we
describe the phase diagrams of three systems when the parameters are close to
the voter model: (i) a stochastic spatial Lotka-Volterra model of Neuhauser and
Pacala, (ii) a model of the evolution of cooperation of Ohtsuki, Hauert,
Lieberman, and Nowak, and (iii) a continuous time version of the non-linear
voter model of Molofsky, Durrett, Dushoff, Griffeath, and Levin. The first
application confirms a conjecture of Cox and Perkins and the second confirms a
conjecture of Ohtsuki et al in the context of certain infinite graphs. An
important feature of our general results is that they do not require the
process to be attractive.Comment: 106 pages, 7 figure
Flux profile scanners for scattered high-energy electrons
The paper describes the design and performance of flux integrating Cherenkov
scanners with air-core reflecting light guides used in a high-energy, high-flux
electron scattering experiment at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. The
scanners were highly radiation resistant and provided a good signal to
background ratio leading to very good spatial resolution of the scattered
electron flux profile scans.Comment: 22 pages, 17 figure
Report of the 2005 Snowmass Top/QCD Working Group
This report discusses several topics in both top quark physics and QCD at an
International Linear Collider (ILC). Issues such as measurements at the
threshold, including both theoretical and machine requirements, and
the determination of electroweak top quark couplings, are reviewed. New results
concerning the potential of a 500 GeV collider for measuring
couplings and the top quark Yukawa coupling are presented. The status of higher
order QCD corrections to jet production cross sections, heavy quark form
factors, and longitudinal gauge boson scattering, needed for percent-level
studies at the ILC, are reviewed. A new study of the measurement of the
hadronic structure of the photon at a collider is presented. The
effects on top quark properties from several models of new physics, including
composite models, Little Higgs theories, and CPT violation, are studied.Comment: 39 pages, many figs; typos fixed and refs added. Contributed to the

Measurement of ϒ production in pp collisions at √s = 2.76 TeV
The production of ϒ(1S), ϒ(2S) and ϒ(3S)
mesons decaying into the dimuon final state is studied with
the LHCb detector using a data sample corresponding to an
integrated luminosity of 3.3 pb−1 collected in proton–proton
collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of √s = 2.76 TeV. The
differential production cross-sections times dimuon branching
fractions are measured as functions of the ϒ transverse
momentum and rapidity, over the ranges pT < 15 GeV/c
and 2.0 < y < 4.5. The total cross-sections in this kinematic
region, assuming unpolarised production, are measured to be
σ (pp → ϒ(1S)X) × B
ϒ(1S)→μ+μ−
= 1.111 ± 0.043 ± 0.044 nb,
σ (pp → ϒ(2S)X) × B
ϒ(2S)→μ+μ−
= 0.264 ± 0.023 ± 0.011 nb,
σ (pp → ϒ(3S)X) × B
ϒ(3S)→μ+μ−
= 0.159 ± 0.020 ± 0.007 nb,
where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic
Study of the doubly charmed tetraquark T+cc
Quantum chromodynamics, the theory of the strong force, describes interactions of coloured quarks and gluons and the formation of hadronic matter. Conventional hadronic matter consists of baryons and mesons made of three quarks and quark-antiquark pairs, respectively. Particles with an alternative quark content are known as exotic states. Here a study is reported of an exotic narrow state in the D0D0π+ mass spectrum just below the D*+D0 mass threshold produced in proton-proton collisions collected with the LHCb detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The state is consistent with the ground isoscalar T+cc tetraquark with a quark content of ccu⎯⎯⎯d⎯⎯⎯ and spin-parity quantum numbers JP = 1+. Study of the DD mass spectra disfavours interpretation of the resonance as the isovector state. The decay structure via intermediate off-shell D*+ mesons is consistent with the observed D0π+ mass distribution. To analyse the mass of the resonance and its coupling to the D*D system, a dedicated model is developed under the assumption of an isoscalar axial-vector T+cc state decaying to the D*D channel. Using this model, resonance parameters including the pole position, scattering length, effective range and compositeness are determined to reveal important information about the nature of the T+cc state. In addition, an unexpected dependence of the production rate on track multiplicity is observed

Realization of Center Symmetry in Two Adjoint Flavor Large-N Yang-Mills
We report on the results of numerical simulations of SU(N) lattice Yang Mills with two flavors of (light) Wilson fermion in the adjoint representation. We analytically and numerically address the question of center symmetry realization on lattices with {Lambda} sites in each direction in the large-N limit. We show, by a weak coupling calculation that, for massless fermions, center symmetry realization is independent of {Lambda}, and is unbroken. Then, we extend our result by conducting simulations at non zero mass and finite gauge coupling. Our results indicate that center symmetry is intact for a range of fermion mass in the vicinity of the critical line on lattices of volume 2{sup 4}. This observation makes it possible to compute infinite volume physical observables using small volume simulations in the limit N {yields} {infinity}, with possible applications to the determination of the conformal window in gauge theories with adjoint fermions

Simplified Models for LHC New Physics Searches
This document proposes a collection of simplified models relevant to the design of new-physics searches at the LHC and the characterization of their results. Both ATLAS and CMS have already presented some results in terms of simplified models, and we encourage them to continue and expand this effort, which supplements both signature-based results and benchmark model interpretations. A simplified model is defined by an effective Lagrangian describing the interactions of a small number of new particles. Simplified models can equally well be described by a small number of masses and cross-sections. These parameters are directly related to collider physics observables, making simplified models a particularly effective framework for evaluating searches and a useful starting point for characterizing positive signals of new physics. This document serves as an official summary of the results from the 'Topologies for Early LHC Searches' workshop, held at SLAC in September of 2010, the purpose of which was to develop a set of representative models that can be used to cover all relevant phase space in experimental searches. Particular emphasis is placed on searches relevant for the first {approx} 50-500 pb{sup -1} of data and those motivated by supersymmetric models. This note largely summarizes material posted at http://lhcnewphysics.org/, which includes simplified model definitions, Monte Carlo material, and supporting contacts within the theory community. We also comment on future developments that may be useful as more data is gathered and analyzed by the experiments
